Testing Center - FAQ

Which test should I take?

Accuplacer
If time is too short for potential students to receive their scores by the time they are to attend a Freshman Orientation session for which they are registered or to register for the Fall/Spring/Summer semester, Accuplacer is the best choice.  They will receive their scores as they leave.

If the potential student is from out-of-state and will not be able to take the THEA then the Accuplacer is the best choice.

THEA
If the potential student does have time to receive their scores by the Fall/Spring/Summer semester registration, they need to register for the regularly scheduled Statewide THEA date (See our THEA page),  If they need special accommodation, they must register for the regularly scheduled THEA - no special accommodation for the Quick THEA.

Quick THEA
Students who have passed the scheduled deadline for the THEA test or need to test sooner than the next test date for THEA may take the Quick THEA.

How long will it take me to receive the results of the test?

  •  Accuplacer - immediately after testing.
  •  THEA / QUICK THEA - 4 to 7 days.

Will I receive a copy of my scores?

  • Accuplacer - Students will receive only the print out generated at the time the examinee completed the test.
  • THEA - THEA scores will be sent to the examinee, and the registrar of the institution of the examinee's choice which should have been listed at the time of registration for the test.

What do I do if I have already registered for the THEA for a statewide test date and wish to cancel and register for the Quick THEA?

  • Call the National Evaluation Systems at  (512) 927-5397

Can I test as often as I want?

  • NO!!!  Only once every 30 days on Quick THEA.  You may retest as many times as you wish on the regularly scheduled statewide testing.  Retesting on Accuplacer is permitted.

Can I take the Accuplacer as the THEA Alternative test if I have already taken Accuplacer previously as the placement test?

  • Yes, students can retest on Accuplacer.

If I take the Accuplacer as the THEA alternative test and do not pass all parts do I retest only the part(s) I did not pass?

  • Yes, students only retest on the parts not passed on the alternative tests.

If I only take one section of the test am I considered to have not passed those parts I didn't take?

Yes.
