Medical Transcriptionist Applicant Point System
All applicants will be ranked according to the following point system: TEST SCORES You must take, or have taken, one of the following and present your scores with your application. | ACCUPLACER | | THEA | | Reading | OR | Reading | | English | | English | This is a THEA exempt program, but if a student has taken THEA (formerly called TASP) we can use their scores, or they may retest using ACCUPLACER. Students do not actually have to pass any of these tests to be accepted, but the scores will be used in the ranking system. These scores will be converted to a percentage to ensure equal point value between the tests. If you are TSI-Complete and do not wish to test, your will receive a 90% value as your test scores for both Reading and English REQUIRED COURSE GRADESAll courses listed in the curriculum that have been completed by the spring semester of application will be used in this process. Students must submit an updated transcript of courses completed before the second week in June. If the student made an A in the course they will get 5 points, a B will get 3 points and a C will get 2 points. FORMER EDUCATION Candidates with a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution will receive 5 points. Candidates with an associate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution will receive 4 points. Candidates with a certificate from a regionally accredited institution will receive 3 points. DISTRICT POINTS Candidates who are in the Tyler Junior College District will receive 3 points.
