TJC in Waikiki

The Tyler Junior College Apache Band, Jazz Band, A Capella Choir, Harmony & Understanding and the Apache Belles traveled to Honolulu during their spring break week of March 6th-14th, 2004. With a support group of parents, friends and contributors to the college, the TJC representatives included almost 350! In the College's 77 year history, this was the largest travel group for a TJC-sponsored activity.

During their stay on the island of Oahu, the students performed for the United States Navy at Pearl Harbor and at the Schofield Army Barracks located on the west side of the island. The weather was picture-perfect and the students' performances were flawless! The men, women and families of the armed forces greatly appreciated the College's efforts to support and encourage them during this time of war.

When the students weren't rehearsing or performing, they learned about Hawaiian culture and American history, which included a visit to the USS Arizona, the memorial to those who lost their lives when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor.

"This was a memorable trip for everyone who went, especially the students who performed for our nation's service men and women," said TJC President Dr. William R. Crowe. "In the College's 77-year history, this is the first time all of our performing groups have traveled together to perform. A large contingent of friends and alumni also traveled with us at their own expense, making it the largest travel group for a TJC-sponsored activity."
