Automotive Technology
In 1999, Tyler Junior College created a unique partnership with Tyler Independent School District by agreeing to provide automotive technical training to interested high school students. As other school districts joined the developing program, area automotive dealerships expressed the need for a college level program that would provide quality training in the area of automotive repair. To meet this community need, TJC now offers certificates of proficiency and associate degrees in the automotive field. Housed in the Tyler Junior College Skills Training Center on our west campus, the program currently enrolls approximately 500 high school and college students. The Center's Automotive Technology area provides a state of the art training facility that includes twelve workstations, six classrooms and laboratory areas for study of automotive and diesel engine repair. A generous gift from the Sam Roosth Foundation established the Jake and Mary Roosth Automotive Technology Center and provides cutting edge equipment and much needed scholarships. Through Tyler Junior College's Automotive Technology program, men and women in East Texas can successfully pursue a career in the automotive industry with salaries beginning as high as $45,000. With growing enrollment and the demand for well-trained automotive technicians increasing rapidly, additional funding is needed for scholarships, equipment and training vehicles. Your gift will help TJC students successfully prepare for careers in automotive technology.
