Expanding Your Horizons
A Career Conference for 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Girls Co-Sponsored by the American Association of University Women and Tyler Junior College Dr. Vickie Geisel - Sophie Pierce Conference Co-Chairs Mission Statement “Expanding Your Horizons in Science and Mathematics is designed to nurture girls interest in science and math courses and to encourage them to consider science and math-based career options”. The Math/Science Network started in 1974 as an informal group of women scientists and educators in the San Francisco Bay Area, and created the first EYH conference in 1976. "Expanding Your Horizons"™ is a national program of the Math/Science Network designed to encourage young women to enroll in Science, Mathematics and Engineering programs, increasing the retention rate in those programs. The involvement of women who are successful in their careers is critical for young women to envision themselves in the same roles. American Association of University Women and Tyler Junior College began this program in 1991 and has continued to be wonderfully successful over the past 17 years. The Role Models in "Expanding Your Horizons"™ have touched the lives of thousands of middle school girls and made a difference. There were more than 600 middle school girls registered and over 65 adults who participated this year's conference and were unanimous in their enthusiastic praise of the program. 2009 REGISTRATION & INFORMATION Registration must be received by: 03/13/09!
