New Student Advising Process
1. Submit the following to the admissions office in the White Administrative Services Center: 2. Determine Texas Success Initiative (TSI) or testing status through the Admissions office: - If THEA already taken; *THEA exempt; or **THEA waived, go to step 3.
- If THEA test is needed but has not been taken, go to the Testing Center (second floor of Rogers Student Center) to take the ACCUPLACER (This is an alternative test to THEA—allow three hours to test. There is a fee of $25 that needs to be paid in the cashier’s office before testing. Government issued Photo ID required.) Or check with the Testing Center for scheduled Quick THEA dates. Accuplacer is administered on a walk in basis and THEA by appointment only.
3. Meet with an Academic Advisor after receiving test scores for assistance in course selection.: - An Advisor helps students with the following:

- Interpretation of test scores
- Selecting a major
- Degree Plan and transfer information
- Course selection
- Information on campus resources
- Information on the registration process and clearance to register.
4. Check the current printed Registration Guide or view it online at www.tjc.edu to choose course days and times. 5. Register online in Apache Access before deadline listed in the Registration Guide. 6. Pay tuition and fees by the deadline published in the Registration Guide. Secure parking permit and student ID card.
* Determined when an application is received. THEA status is based upon college credit prior to Fall of 1989, or scores from one of the following tests: ACT, SAT, TAKS or TAAS. Students who are exempt from THEA may still be required to take part of the ACCUPLACER.
