Adult Student Services - FAQ

How do I find out about starting college for the first time or returning after a period of absence?

The Perkins Data/Grant Coordinator in the Support Services office, Rogers Student Center, is available to guide you through the process of going back to school.   You may schedule an individual appointment by calling 903-510-2395, by email mkno@tjc.edu, or attend an Adult Student Workshop available several times each year.

What is an Adult Student Workshop?

An Adult Student Workshop is a 3 ½ hour information and orientation session for returning adult students age 21 and over.  Parents/Single Parents under age 21 are also welcome.  Workshops are held several times each year prior to the Fall and Spring semesters.

Is help available for childcare?

For the full-time career technical and Allied Health majors who can document financial need, limited financial support may be available for dependent care assistance through the Carl D. Perkins Grant. Students must use a Licensed Daycare or Registered Family Home.

Does TJC have a daycare facility?

No, TJC does not currently have a daycare facility onsite.

What are the Carl D. Perkins Grant guidelines for eligibility and how do I apply?

To be eligible for consideration for Perkins Grant awards you must be a low income, Associate of Applied Studies — Career Technical major, attending full-time, while maintaining a 2.0 cumulative GPA.  Perkins Grant applications are available in Support Services, 2nd floor, Rogers Student Center and should be turned in by the appropriate deadlines.
