Admissions Process

At Tyler Junior College, we work hard to make every student's admissions process as smooth as possible.  Below, you'll find eight easy steps to success for making sure you meet the admissions requirements at TJC:

Step 1:   Admission
Apply online - it's quick and easy!  You can also download an application [PDF file], or request a printed application by calling the Admissions Office at (800) 687-5680.

Step 2 (optional):   Apply for Residence Halls
If you are interested in living in on-campus housing, submit separate Housing application and deposit.  See Living on Campus for more information.  Submit your application for Housing as early as possible as there is very limited availability.

Step 3:   Financial Aid  (not a required step, but highly encouraged)
TJC assists students in applying for financial aid, scholarships, veterans' benefits, and vocational/technical students may also be eligible for Perkins Grant.  Start this process early in the calendar year and be mindful of deadlines.

Step 4:   Scholarships (not a required step, but highly encouraged)
TJC offers financial assistance through various scholarship programs. A separate application is required to be considered for scholarships. Priority deadline is March 1 for the upcoming fall and spring semesters.

Step 5:   Testing Requirements
Required reading, writing and math assessment tests help place students in the appropriate classes.

Step 6:   Advising
Students must meet with an academic advisor before attempting to register IF they: are new to TJC; are non-TSI complete or non-TSI exempt; are on scholastic probation; have less than a 2.0 GPA; or, need to change their major.

Step 7:   Orientation
All students new to college must complete orientation. Schedules of orientation sessions are available online.

Step 8:   Registration
New students must be cleared to register online by their Academic Advisor.  TJC also offers walk-in “Late Registration” just a few days before the start of classes for every regular semester.

Step 9:   Cashier
Pay your tuition online, by phone, or the Cashier’s office in the White Admin Services Center.

Step 10:   TJC student ID
Your TJC student ID is required to use some College services, such as using the computer labs and selling books back to the bookstore. Your ID card is also good for free attendance to TJC athletic events, checking out books at the library, and using the workout facilities.

SELECTED ADMISSIONS
Admission to Tyler Junior College does not guarantee admission to a specific Allied Health and Nursing program. The number of students admitted to each of these programs is limited. Students are admitted to selected admissions programs on the basis of admission to the college, reading level, math ability, prior educational achievements and health status. Application for a program admission should be made directly to the program director as early as possible in advance of the fall semester.

Programs which require separate application include: associate degree nursing, critical care nursing, dental hygiene, diagnostic medical sonography, emergency medical technology, medical laboratory technology, medical record technology, optician technician, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy, and vocational nursing.
