Certificate areas that are currently offered: - Bilingual Education (EC-4)
- Generalist (EC-4)
- Life Science (8-12)
- Science (4-8)
- Social Studies (4-8, 8-12)
- Math (4-8, 8-12)
- Special Education (EC-12)
- Bilingual Education (EC-4)
Program Description
Training will reflect the state teacher proficiencies and TExES competencies. Servicing to three different levels of teaching experience (emergency certification, additional certification, and uncertified individuals), TJC has created an individualized program to meet the needs of those who are seeking teaching certification: - 100 contact hours in professional development
- 148 contact hours of content area education
- 30 hours of field-based experience
- 40 hours of service learning experience (Boot Camp)
- Field Experience: One year internship or employment with independent school district OR Clinical Teaching (12 weeks Student Teaching)
- Take the professional/content area TExES
In the second component of the program these teachers will be employed full-time and be supported by monthly continuing professional development education, a mentoring program based on the TxBESS standards will be provided throughout the school year and weekly on-line discussions with cohort members, peers and the mentor coordinator will also be offered.
