General Information

The Tyler Junior College Academy of Dance offers pre-professional level training in a progressively graded program of ballet and other dance forms to students of all ages and levels; ranging from four to adult. Emphasis is placed upon correct body alignment and posture, strength development, coordination, and flexibility through knowledge of proper technique, terminology, musical awareness and artistry. All while having fun in the execution of the art form known as dance!

Enrollment and Registration

All dance classes begin in the fall and progress at each level through the spring session. Students who expect to participate in the spring year-end production “Dancefest” should be enrolled for the entire school year. For beginner and lower-level classes (below A-I), new students should enroll according to the age requirements specified in the schedule booklet. New students with previous training and any student questions regarding proper class placement should call 903-510-2027 for information and instructor’s approval before enrolling. Returning students will be advised prior to a new session by letter regarding class assignments, or should call the number above. Final class placement in all classes is at the discretion of the instructor. Please do not call the Registrar’s office for placement information. Enrollments are accepted on a “first come, first served” basis.

ENROLL EARLY TO GUARANTEE ENTRY, as the Academy limits its class sizes for the safety and benefit of the students, and classes will be closed when enrollment quotas are met. Late enrollments after the session begins will be accepted on a space-available basis only. We reserve the right to cancel classes not meeting enrollment quota, for full refund or transfer into another dance class. All students must have approval of the Academy of Dance Program Director before enrolling in any classes above beginner level. Class schedule may be subject to change after the Continuing Education course schedule is published. All students are requested to review the schedule booklet, and call for final schedule confirmation and to register through the TJC West Campus (RTDC) at 903-510-2900.
